Supporters, Former Owners Celebrate Dixie’s 83rd Birthday
The Dixie set out on a special cruise this afternoon to honor the former owners and supporters who have kept the paddlewheel boat in operation since 1929.
Birthday cake was served as the individuals responsible for saving the Dixie mingled and reminisced about the Dixie’s history.
Karilyn Metcalf, president of Dixie Sternwheeler Inc., gave a speech prior to departure thanking the families that attended the birthday event.
Russ Boucher was officially named a captain of the Dixie and he captained his first cruise at 4 p.m. this afternoon.
