Heat Advisory for Kosciusko County
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Kosciusko County that is in effect from noon today until 7 p.m. this evening.
Afternoon temperatures are expected to reach between 90 and 95 degrees with heat index values nearing 100 by this afternoon. Lower temperatures and less humidity are expected Thursday.
A heat advisory means periods of high temperatures and high humidity will combine and create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Especially the elderly, children, those who spend prolonged periods of time outside and those without air conditioning are particularly vulnerable to effects of heat illnesses.
To avoid heat exhaustion and heat stroke, which can be deadly, drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air conditioned room and stay out of the sun and wear light, loose clothing. Remember to check up relatives and neighbors, especially the elderly.
The NWS has also advised that today could be a bad day for allergy sufferers. High pollen levels for weeds will be intensified today.
