Former Vikings Key For Plymouth Squad
James Hackworth and Brody Andrews, a pair of former Tippecanoe Valley High School baseball standouts, helped Pymouth Post 27 reach the semifinals of its own Patriot Classic American Legion tournament which finished Sunday.
The host Diamond Spyders, whose roster includes players from across the area, lost 3-0 to Highland Post 180 in the semifinals of the four-day tourney at Bill Nixon Field in Plymouth. Highland pitcher Jordan Minch, a southpaw who will play at Purdue, fired a one-hitter with 12 strikeouts to top Plymouth. Highland went on to win the tournament championship.
Andrews led the Spyders with seven RBI in the tourney, while Indiana State bound Hackworth scored eight runs. Hackworth slugged a two-run homer and a double Saturday as Plymouth defeated Three Oaks 14-3.
Andrews and Hackworth helped lead Valley to a Class 3-A sectional championship back in May.
The Spyders, who are 15-10 this summer, play at Logansport today (July 10) and host Kokomo Wednesday in Plymouth.
