Symmetry Employees Report Bank Fraud
Since StaceyPageOnline.com broke a story Thursday that numerous employees of at least one local business were finding their bank accounts hacked, more reports have surfaced.
Symmetry Medical this morning called for a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputy who took reports from at least 31 first-shift employees, all who have reported fraudulent purchases on their accounts. The company is also making contact with second-shift and third-shift employees and expects the number of reports to grow.
Several local banks, including Teachers Credit Union, Lake City Bank, PNC and MutualBank are among those where many customers are claiming someone fraudulently used their accounts to purchase airline tickets and iPads. At least one person reported an unauthorized credit report was purchased for $150 on her account.
While neither Symmetry nor the KCSD have officially released any details, employees at the company say the breach may have come through the company’s payroll processing provider. Sheriff Rocky Goshert says his department will have no formal statement on the matter while it is being investigated.
Warsaw Police Department Det. Lt. Steve Adang said as of Thursday afternoon he had not received nor seen any filings pertaining to the fraud reports, but encouraged everyone who has been victimized to report the thefts right away.
Residents residing in Warsaw should report the suspicious banking activity to the Warsaw Police Department at 574-372-9515. Residents residing outside of the city limits should notify the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department at 574-267-5667.
