Baker Sizzles At Maxwelton
Brent Baker had a round to remember recently at the Maxwelton Golf Club in Syracuse.
Baker, who lives in Leesburg, tied the course record with his red-hot round of 62 on steamy June 19. The 1992 Wawasee High School graduate shot his 10-under round with nine birdies, one bogey and an eagle on No. 18. Baker shot 32 on the front nine and 30 on the back in his outstanding round.
Baker’s performance is just the second 62 in the history of the course which opened in 1930. Andy Wolf, also a Wawasee High School product, shot 62 in 2008.
“It’s just an exceptional round,” said Bob Carlson, who has owned Maxwelton since 1986. “A 62 speaks for itself. There’s little margin for error in a round like that.”
Baker shot his record-tying round while playing with Jay Garr. Baker’s best round prior to last week was a 67.
