Joan ‘Jo’ E. Handis
Joan (Jo) E. Handis, 79, of Warsaw, Ind., went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 27, 2012, at 4:50 a.m. in the Mason Health Care, Warsaw.
On Sept. 24, 1932, Joan was born to Daniel and Ruth (Doenges) Knepper in Fort Wayne, Ind. She was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County since 1965 residing in Warsaw area. On July 5, 1980, she married John M. Handis in Warsaw, he survives.
Joan was an employee of the Gatke Corporation, Warsaw Airport, Sun Metal, retired from L.M. Berry “the yellow pages company.” Joan then worked at the local Super Wal-Mart for 15 years in the paint department. Joan attended the Redeemer Lutheran Church here in Warsaw.
Joan is survived by her husband: John; and a daughter: Michelle Kennedy, Tucson, Ariz.; sons: Jerry (Pam) Koehlinger, Warsaw; Jim Koehlinger, Warsaw; and James Handis, Tucson; a sister: Joy Valentine, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a brother: Daniel F. (Ann) Knepper, Warsaw; and nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildern.
She was preceded in death by her parents and first husband: Ronald Koehlinger.
Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 31, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. Funeral services for Joan will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Dennis Bollenbacher officiating the service. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Warsaw.
