In its first annual meeting, held Saturday, Feb. 12, the Turkey Creek Dam and Dike Conservancy District swore in Todd Mikel as a new board member. Mikel will represent District 1 of the conservancy which was represented by John Earnst before he moved out of the area.

The district plan for the Turkey Creek Dam and Dike Conservancy District is a road map. “The purpose is to give some direction on how to proceed … how to deal with the responsibility for, maintenance and overseeing of the control structure and deal with the dike structure. It is a plan of action to implement,” explained David Hollenbeck, district attorney.

An estimated $50 a year is all it will cost freeholders around Syracuse and Wawasee lakes should the Turkey Creek Dam and Dike Conservancy be established, according to an estimated budget presented during a Natural Resource Commission public hearing Thursday afternoon, July 23. Approximately 13 people attended the hearing, which lasted close to two hours.
