Syracuse and Milford Receive Community Crossing Grants

Syracuse and Milford are among 241 Indiana cities, towns and counties awarded matching grants from Indiana Department of Transportation’s Community Crossings matching grant program. A total of $101 million in matching funds were distributed for the improvement of local roads and bridges.

During clerk reports at the Nov. 23 meeting of Milford Town Council, Clerk/Treasurer Tricia Gall informed the council the town received $51,001 from the CARES Act, a federal initiative to alleviate economic fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic. The funds were deposited shortly after the council’s October meeting.

One of the school programs cancelled due to COVID-19 this year was Kosciusko Youth Leadership Academy, which suspended its activities until the 2021-2022 school year. However, one KYLA student, Elizabeth Stone, was determined to see her project through, and on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 20 banners honoring men and women serving in the armed forces were hung on Market Street in downtown Warsaw.

Milford Town Council approved its 2021 budget at a monthly meeting held Monday evening, Sept. 14. The total estimate of $2,232,073 is a 4.1% increase over the 2020 budget. The increase is less than 2020, which saw a 6.8% increase.

Kosciusko County Council held an informal budget meeting on Monday, Aug. 17 in the Justice Building, 121 N. Lake St.. During the three-hour meeting, council members voted to cut approximately $270,000 from the requested 2021 budget, which prior to the meeting stood at $48,143,577, an increase of $2,389,099 over the 2020 budget.
