Dorothy Brown — UPDATED
Dorothy Mae Brown, 95, Pierceton, died Monday, Aug. 8, 2022, at Paddock Springs Senior Living, Warsaw.
Dorothy was born Sep. 15, 1926, in Rensselaer, the daughter of (the late) George and Bertha (Pollex) Fleck. She graduated from Laketon High School with the Class of ’44 and on Oct. 4, 1946, Dorothy married Alton Brown in Wabash; he preceded her in death on Jan. 3, 1989, after 42 years of marriage.
She loved working the family farm and also enjoyed caring for her substantial flower garden at her home. Dorothy was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, where she was an active member of the Rosary Society, women’s groups and the Altar Guild, where she provided fresh altar flowers from her garden for many years. She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother who cherished and enjoyed her family; she was an accomplished cook and baker and was known for her wonderful pies. She also enjoyed sewing and crocheting; she created the baby blankets for all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by her children; Steven (Tami) Brown, Greenfield, Annette (Dan) Knepper, Warsaw, Stanley (Elaine) Brown, South Whitley, Scott (Kim) Brown, Warsaw, Spencer (Penny) Brown, Leesburg and Phillip Shannon (Susan) Brown, Converse; her nephew, Jeff (Joie) Lotz, South Whitley; her brother, Howard Fleck, Cincinnati, Ohio; 20 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Dorothy was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Angela Brown; grandsons, Kameron Brown and Joshua Brown; nephew, Max Lotz; four sisters; and two brothers.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, 2022, in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 405 W. Catholic St., Pierceton. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, in McHatton Sadler Funeral Chapel, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw. Burial will be held in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery, Pierceton.
