WARSAW — There are no plans for the time being to start up a new women’s Jail Chemical Addiction Program class in Kosciusko County.
The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Merit Board heard that news from Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Shane Bucher at its regular meeting on Wednesday, July 13.
“Unfortunately we weren’t able to staff a women’s class because (there weren’t) enough qualified (candidates) in our facility to (make up) a whole class there,” explained Bucher.
He added a new men’s JCAP class is to start Monday, July 18, with the participants moving into their cell block for the class on Friday, July 15.
In other business, the board:

Two sheriff’s merit board members, Ron Truex and Tony Garza, are in the planning stage of developing a scholarship, the Garza-Truex Scholarship, to give out to kids who have attended Camp H.E.R.O. and been exemplary while there.
- Heard from Bucher that 255 people were incarcerated in the Kosciusko County Jail and 77 were out at Kosciusko County Work Release as of the time of meeting on Wednesday.
