UPDATE: Warsaw Man Taken To Hospital After Atwood Wreck
Staff Report
ATWOOD — A Warsaw man was taken to the hospital for evaluation after a wreck near Atwood on Monday, June 27.
According to a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office accident report, Todd A. Shoemaker, 55, West CR 550N, Warsaw, was taken to a local hospital following a two-vehicle accident that occurred at 4:52 p.m. on West US 30, north of North CR 500W.
Shoemaker was traveling northbound on CR 500W in a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox. In that area, road construction is being completed, and East US 30 is completely closed down. Both eastbound and westbound traffic are being funneled through the westbound lanes.
Shoemaker said he didn’t remember any of the accident. The other driver, Vasyl Yakoviak, 31, Bobby Ann Court, Roselle, Ill., provided police with dash cam footage of the accident.
Shoemaker approached the stop sign at the median on CR 500W. He rolled through the stop sign into the travel lanes on US 30 and was unable to avoid colliding with Yakoviak’s 2000 Kenworth semi, which was traveling east on West US 30.
Shoemaker’s vehicle turned onto its side, and he was trapped inside for a time.
Damage is estimated up to $50,000.
