Romayne Stenstrom — UPDATED
Romayne Estelle Stenstrom, 89, Grace Village Retirement Community, Winona Lake, died at 5:01 a.m. Sunday, May 22, 2022, at Grace Village Health Care.
She was born Nov. 30, 1932, in San Francisco, Calif. to Doris Helene (Willey) Amos and Chauncey Mitchell Amos. On Oct. 27, 1956, she married Kenneth Lyle Stenstrom, and they spent the next 65 years of their marriage traveling the world as missionaries and sharing their lives in everything they did before he passed away Jan. 24, 2022. One of their greatest accomplishments were being blessed with children and becoming grandparents.
Romayne graduated from San Francisco Baptist College and received her bachelor’s degree in Christian Education. She and her husband worked in missions in Taiwan for four years. They then worked short term in Romania, Malawi and Mexico. She also was a mission house parent at Riverwood Ranch for eight years.
Ken and Romayne lived in North Dakota for eleven years before moving to Indiana and living in Palestine for a number of years. They finally settled in Winona Lake. She loved serving her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and enjoyed the fellowship of her church family as a member of the former Winona Lake Free Methodist Church (now called Winona Lake Community Church). Romayne was a loving and patient wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and will be dearly missed.
She leaves behind two daughters, Karen Engstrom, Vancouver, Wash., Ruth (Larry) Wilson, Bedford, Va.; two sons, Raymond Stenstrom, Folly Beach, S.C. and William (Judith) Stenstrom; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Christense, Eugene, Ore. and Harriet Tesch, Bemidji, Minn.; and three brothers-in-law, Arvid Stenstrom, Boiling Springs, S.C., Stanley Stenstrom, Paso Robles, Calif. and LeRoy Stenstrom, Bemidji, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Romayne’s life will be celebrated with a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 28, 2022, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw. Pastor Jordan Ickes will be officiating. She will be buried at a later date at Etna Green Cemetery, Etna Green.
