WARSAW – Two familiar faces in the Kosciusko County Courthouse are facing each other in the Republican primary for County Recorder.
The race is between Teena Pence, financial deputy for the county auditor; and Deb Wright, who has served as recorder for two previous terms and is currently employed in the office.
Both participated in a brief forum Wednesday night, April 27, at Warsaw City Hall in the second in a series of events hosted by the Kosciusko Chamber of Commerce.
Pence has worked in county government since 2009, beginning as an appeals specialist in the assessor’s office. She currently works as a financial deputy in the auditor’s office.
In her current role, Pence said she is entrusted with all aspects of county finance and manages all state and federal grants awarded to the county.
“I feel my skills and abilities that I’ve acquired have led me to this opportunity and would consider it a great honor to serve my community as county recorder,” Pence said.
During her time as recorder, Wright said she made technological upgrades that saved the county and community money.
“I feel I have the best experience for this office,” Wright said. “I’ve literally done the job before.”
Pence said she’s aware of one county recorder’s office that is completely self-funded with the use of a record perpetuation fund, and suggested the same practice could be used in the local recorder’s office.
Wright responded by pointing out that the office is already completely self-funded except for the salary of the current recorder.
