AKRON — Tippecanoe Valley School Corp. plans to recognize several retiring Mentone Elementary School staff at the TVSC Board meeting on Monday, April 18, at Mentone.
TVSC Superintendent Blaine Conley mentioned that at the board’s public work session on Thursday, April 14, at Akron Elementary School. The monthly work session, which is normally held at Tippecanoe Valley High School, was moved to Akron after TVHS lost power due to high winds Thursday.
The board met in Akron Elementary’s library with power provided by a generator.
The retirees include Tana Tinkey, Alisa Baker, Pam Sellers and Patti Newman. The public is invited to a reception for them with cake at 5:15 p.m. Monday at Mentone.
The meeting will start at 6 p.m.

Conley also said the board won’t approve bids for the upcoming renovation of TVHS at Monday’s meeting as originally planned.
“Skillman, (the construction management company for the project,) is asking us for some additional time to continue to work with the contractors … so they are still really going through that process and we’ll have to have a separate meeting to approve the bids for the high school project,” said Conley.
He hopes that additional meeting will be soon.
In other business, the board:
- Heard from Conley that TVHS’ graduation will be on Sunday, June 5, at the school’s gym. The baccalaureate is at 2 p.m. with the ceremony at 2:45 p.m.
- Heard that Burket Educational Center’s graduation will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 19, in Burket’s gym. Conley noted the center expects to see its 400th student graduate during that ceremony.
- Heard that TVSC would recognize its teachers of the year from each school at Monday’s meeting with it also naming its overall teacher of the year then. Last year’s overall teacher was Burket teacher Micah Lukens.
