WARSAW – A small apartment building next to the old Owen’s supermarket in Warsaw is being used for fire training.
The building at the corner of Washington and Center streets was once the home of a popular bike shop and was later converted into two apartments.
The brick building and the adjacent Owen’s building belong to the city and will be demolished soon to make room for a multi-use apartment building.
On Saturday, March 5, firefighters with Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory were using three sectioned-off areas of the building for different purposes, said Capt. Dave Vercauteren.
One of the exercises involved working in smokey conditions with the use of artificial smoke, he said.
More training is expected to continue for a week or so.
