Man Arrested After Accident With Stolen Vehicle
Staff Report
WARSAW — A Goshen man was recently arrested after allegedly using a woman’s vehicle without permission and getting into a vehicle accident with it.
Zachary Tyler Brickey, 21, 409 James Place, Goshen, is charged with theft, a level 6 felony; and criminal mischief, a class B misdemeanor.
On March 7, 2021, a woman contacted a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office deputy for information about a vehicle accident in which her vehicle was damaged. The deputy had responded to the accident early in the morning on March 7, 2021.
According to court documents, at the time of the accident, the woman’s vehicle was being operated by Brickey. The woman said she did not give Brickey consent to use her vehicle.
She told the deputy that on March 6, 2021, a group of her friends, including Brickey, were helping her move belongings to her new home. After moving the items, her friends stayed at her home and were there when she fell asleep. About six hours later, she was woken up by Brickey, who told her that he took her vehicle and hit a pothole, causing an accident.
Brickey provided the woman with the KCSO deputy’s business card, which had information regarding the accident report, and then left without providing any additional information.
The woman told the deputy Brickey used her vehicle and got into an accident with it about a month prior to the March 2021 incident.
Brickey was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Jan. 28, with a $5,750 surety and cash bond.
