WARSAW – Warsaw Police have issued a statement following the death of Drake Price, a 16-year-old who died last week.
WPD had named Drake as an honorary officer and many in the department bonded with the youth, who had a love for law enforcement.
Drake died Friday, Jan. 7, at home.
The statement reads:
The Warsaw Police Department has endured a loss to our police family. On Friday, Jan. 7, 2022, honorary police officer Drake Price passed away unexpectedly at his home. Our hope and prayers are that Officer Drake knew what a joy and inspiration he had become for all of us. He was a courageous young man who fought valiantly throughout his brain tumor diagnosis.
On Oct. 25, 2021, The Warsaw Police Department laid to rest Captain Clay A. Layne after he unexpectedly passed away. When turning into the cemetery, officers saw Drake standing at attention; wearing his uniform shirt and dress hat, saluting Captain Layne and the rest of the officers when passing by him and his family.
It is our hope the Price family finds comfort in the light Drake became for our community. He was a true spark of positivity. The Warsaw Police Department will forever be #DRAKESTRONG!
The viewing will be from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, at the Warsaw Community Church, 1855 S. County Farm Road, in Warsaw.
