State Sees Record Number Of Daily COVID-19 Cases

WARSAW — On Wednesday, Jan. 5, the state of Indiana reported 15,515 new, positive COVID-19 cases.
This has been the highest daily number the state has reported since the beginning of the pandemic.
Locally, Kosciusko County has moved back into the “orange” category on the Indiana Department of Health’s color-coded COVID-19 map, with a 14.6% positivity rate.
The map measures percent positivity and new cases per 100,000 residents, with the baseline for red being 15%.
Since Dec. 29, Kosciusko County has reported 13 new COVID-19 deaths. This brings the county to 192 COVID-19 deaths and 16,437 positive cases.
Marshall and Fulton Counties each recently reported two new COVID-19 deaths. Marshall County has reported 163 deaths and 10,423 positive cases. Fulton County has reported 90 deaths and 4,046 positive cases.
Wabash County recently reported one new COVID-19 death. This brings Wabash County to 133 deaths and 7,127 positive cases.
Whitley County also recently reported three new COVID-19 deaths. This brings Whitley County to 70 deaths and 7,675 positive cases.
More than 31,500 people in Kosciusko County have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
More than 3,575,000 Hoosiers are considered to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. According to statewide demographics, about 50% of those fully vaccinated are individuals who are 50 and older. About 53% of people fully vaccinated are female.
Statewide, the IDH website shows the number of COVID-19 deaths in Indiana rose to 18,959.
The total positive number of reported COVID-19 cases in Indiana is now at 1,329,423. More than 17,032,000 COVID-19 tests have been administered to Hoosiers.
Since the pandemic began, Noble County has reported 10,557 positive cases and Elkhart County has 44,989.
In other northern Indiana counties, Lake County has 92,302 positive cases; Allen County has 80,802 positive cases; and St. Joseph County has 58,574 positive cases.
According to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center, about 837,000 people in the United States have died of COVID-19.
