Silver Lake Woman Arrested For Stealing Motorcycles
Staff Report
SILVER LAKE — A Silver Lake woman was arrested for allegedly stealing motorcycles less than a month after being arrested in a separate auto theft incident.
Lisa Marie Jayne, 31, 305 E. Main St., Silver Lake, is charged with two counts of theft, both level 6 felonies.
On July 29, a Silver Lake Police officer was flagged down to respond to a landlord-tenant dispute. The officer spoke with a man who said his landlord, later identified as Jayne, was changing the locks in the garage at a property he rents.
The officer then spoke with Jayne, who said she was changing the locks due to an earlier incident involving her tenant.
According to court documents, while completing the landlord-tenant dispute, the officer learned three motorcycles had been stolen from the garage. The man said he was away from the property on July 28 for several hours and, upon his return, the motorcycles and numerous motorcycle parts were not in the garage.
The man also said he purchased an item off of Amazon and the package was reported as delivered. However, the man never received the package.
When the officer spoke with Jayne about the missing package, she initially denied knowing about the item but eventually retrieved the package and gave it to the man. She told the officer she didn’t know anything about the missing motorcycles. Jayne said when she returned to the property on July 28, she noticed the garage’s door was wide open.
On July 31, the officer received information from an anonymous source that three people were given the motorcycles by Jayne.
On Aug. 2, the officer spoke with one of the people about being given a motorcycle. The person said he was approached by Jayne, who asked him if he wanted some dirt bikes. Jayne allegedly told him the property was left behind and abandoned by the man who owned the motorcycles. The three individuals loaded up the motorcycles from the property.
On Aug. 5, the officer spoke with a second person who loaded up the motorcycles. The person confirmed that he and two others were given the motorcycles by Jayne on July 28. He told the officer he took the motorcycles to a friend’s home in Mentone. The man led the officer to the motorcycles and the motorcycle parts.
At the time of these charges being filed, Jayne was out on bond for a separate auto theft incident which occurred earlier this year.
For this case, Jayne was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Dec. 22, with a $5,250 surety and cash bond.
