Richard C. Rader
Richard C. “Dick” Rader, 97, of rural Akron, passed at 3:35 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 16, 2021, at Peabody Retirement Community of North Manchester.
Dick was born on July 19, 1924 in Akron, to the late Ralph and Grace (Miller) Rader. He married on Nov. 18, 1945, in the Akron United Methodist Church to LaDonna M. Summe, she preceded him in death on Jan. 24, 2019.
He was a 1942 graduate of Akron High School. He was a lifetime member of the Akron United Methodist Church. Dick was a proud farmer. He took great care in raising cattle for many years. In years past, he also raised hogs.
Dick was a member of the Lincoln Masonic Lodge #523 of Macy since 1955 and the Scottish Rite and Mizpah Shrine since 1962. He was honored as a Sagamore of the Wabash in 1986 by Governor Robert D. Orr. He was an avid Purdue Boilermakers fan. Dick was known to be meticulous in everything he did.
Dick is survived by a daughter Candi Newell of Silver Lake as well as many close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife of 74 years LaDonna.
The funeral service will take place at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2021 at Hartzler Funeral Home 305 West Rochester Street, Akron, with Pastor David Eaton officiating.
The interment will take place following the service in the Akron Cemetery, Akron, next to his wife and parents.
Visitation hours will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 21, at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron.
