Majority Of Northern Indiana Remains “Red” On COVID-19 Map

WARSAW —Kosciusko, Fulton, Wabash, Whitley and Elkhart all continue to remain in the “red” category on the Indiana Department of Health’s COVID-19 two-metric map. Kosciusko and Whitley’s positivity rates have also increased in the last week.
Marshall County has moved back into the “orange” category on the weekly two-metric map, with a 12.4% positivity rate. However, the county will continue being red on the state’s advisory level map for another week.
IDH relies on a color-coded county map that measures percent positivity and new cases per 100,000 residents. The baseline for red is 15%.
Since Dec. 8, Kosciusko County has reported one new COVID-19 death. This brings the county to 171 COVID-19 deaths and 15,096 positive cases.
Marshall, Fulton and Wabash Counties each recently reported two new COVID-19 deaths. Marshall County has reported 149 deaths and 9,630 positive cases. Fulton County has reported 78 deaths and 3,803 positive cases. Wabash County has reported 120 deaths and 6,584 positive cases.
Whitley County has reported five new COVID-19 deaths since Dec. 8. This brings the county to 66 deaths and 6,961 positive cases.
The number of COVID-19 cases in Indiana continues to rise, with anywhere from 2,900 to 5,400 new cases being reported daily.
More than 31,000 people in Kosciusko County have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
More than 3,510,000 Hoosiers are considered to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. According to statewide demographics, about 51% of those fully vaccinated are individuals who are 50 and older. About 53% of people fully vaccinated are female.
Statewide, the IDH website shows the number of COVID-19 deaths in Indiana rose to 17,649.
The total positive number of reported COVID-19 cases in Indiana is now at 1,170,950. More than 16,054,000 COVID-19 tests have been administered to Hoosiers.
Since the pandemic began, locally, Noble County has reported 9,790 positive cases and Elkhart County has 41,772.
In other northern Indiana counties, Lake County has 75,834 positive cases; Allen County has 70,662 positive cases; and St. Joseph County has 52,439 positive cases.
