WARSAW — The Warsaw Board of Aviation Commissioners has approved new fees for those using the Warsaw Municipal Airport.
At its meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 14, at Warsaw City Hall, the board unanimously approved instituting ramp fees for those who use the airport’s services. They aren’t just for people landing at the airport but if they use other services such as getting coffee or using a transport service for food.
The fees are based on different types of aircraft and also are dependent on whether an aircraft purchases fuel or not from the airport. For example, for a multi-engine piston, there will be a $25 ramp fee, which will be waived if the plane purchases at least 25 gallons of fuel.
The rest of the rates are Turboprop aircraft, $50 ramp fee or 50 gallons of fuel; small jets, $100 or 100 gallons; mid jets, $150 ramp or 150 gallons; and large jets, $200 ramp or 200 gallons.
The airport will start charging the fees on Jan. 1.
Airport Manager Nick King said he was helped with researching the fees by the airport’s two high school interns, Will Hall and John West. The Warsaw Community High School students are doing a year-long internship through the Warsaw Area Career Center.
Both hope to become pilots, said King. The two presented their research on the fees through a PowerPoint presentation at the meeting.
Land Use
The board also heard from King that the Warsaw Parks and Recreation Department wants to possibly use some airport property for a new park.
The land is currently being used as farmland that is rented out. King did note that planning for the park project is only in the very early stages and that he just wanted to inform the board about what the department could request.
In other business, the board set its 2022 meetings for the same time and day: 5:15 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month.
The board’s next meeting is 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, at Warsaw City Hall.
