Eva “Gerry” Pickett passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Parkview Whitley Hospital at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2021, at the age of 91.
Born Sept. 7, 1930, in Akron, Gerry was the daughter of Odie and Pearl Engle (Mills). She married Joe Pickett on April 18, 1953, and they spent 43 years together. She worked most of her life starting in high school. She assembled and painted cots during WWII. She also worked for Real Services for 13 years.
Gerry travelled all over the country, going to 48 out of the 50 states. She and her daughter, CJ, travelled over 7,000 miles together, touring many different factories, including the Crayola Factory and Jelly Belly factory. Coloring was her favorite thing to do. Her favorite memories were riding in the hot air balloon and dancing with the Blues Brothers. Gerry also loved to garden and watch the birds. Most of all, her strong willed personality got her through some hard times in life. She was always smiling.
