WARSAW — The Kosciusko County Solid Waste Management District will soon begin live-streaming monthly board meetings.
During a Tuesday, Dec. 7, meeting, the board approved a resolution to establish virtual meetings. This decision follows recent implementations of a live-streaming system at the county’s courthouse and justice building.
Currently, live-stream capabilities are available in the Old Courthouse room at the county courthouse, as well as the Justice Building’s multi-purpose room. Live-streaming services have become more common for many local government meetings in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
For live-streaming meetings, Recycling Depot Director Tom Ganser said he is looking into a camera and microphone system, with a cost estimate between $600 and $900. The camera he is considering would track whoever is speaking.
“Procedurally, there’ll be some things that we have to do differently when we don’t have everybody (board members) here,” said Ganser. “So if anybody’s virtual, we will have to take a roll-call vote for any matter involving a vote. I have to record who was virtual, who was in-person, and who was absent.”
In other business, Ganser said the depot will be looking into bids for contracts regarding electronics recycling. The depot’s current contractor is proposing electronics rates be raised for 2022 from 15 cents a pound to 24 cents.
“We’ll test the waters and see before we take that 60% increase in the second-largest item we recycle per year,” said Ganser.
