WARSAW — A North Webster man received a three-year sentence after stabbing a man at a Dollar General.
Jordan Dale Nieman, 25, 206 E. Washington St., North Webster, was charged with battery with a deadly weapon, a level 5 felony. A criminal recklessness charge was dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
Nieman was sentenced in Kosciusko Superior Court One on Monday, Nov. 29.
On Oct. 21, 2020, a Syracuse police officer went to a Dollar General in Kosciusko County regarding a stabbing report.
The officer found a man bleeding from his head and upper thigh. According to court documents, the man said he and his girlfriend were walking toward the store when they saw another man, later identified as Nieman, looking at them in an odd manner.
When the victim asked Nieman if everything was okay, Nieman started to punch at him. He then put his shoulder against the victim’s stomach, shoved him against a vehicle, and stabbed the man in the leg.
A witness at the scene said they saw the fight happen and that Nieman had a knife. When they tried to get Nieman off the victim, they accidentally pulled off Nieman’s hat and necklaces. Nieman left the scene in a vehicle with another man.
Another witness said they tracked the vehicle Nieman was in to a trailer park and gave police the license plate number.
Nieman was identified by police through store surveillance video. Witnesses also identified Nieman from a group of photos.
For battery with a deadly weapon, Kosciusko Superior Court One Judge Karin McGrath gave Nieman a three-year sentence which can be served in the Kosciusko County Jail or the Indiana Department of Correction. One year will be executed and the final two years of the sentence was suspended on probation.
Nieman has 231 days of jail time credit in this case. A no-contact order remains in effect between Nieman and the victim.
