Milford Library Accepting Donations To Milford Food Pantry
News Release
MILFORD — The Milford Public Library is accepting donations for the local food pantry from Nov. 22-Dec. 18. Persons who would like to bring in some canned goods, paper products or personal hygiene products, donation boxes are available upstairs and downstairs.
The library staff knows the last two years have been very challenging for many people in the community and they want to do what they can to help. There is a list of needed items posted on the front of the donation boxes.
Weather Closings
Bad weather is just around the corner and chances are pretty good that we may have to close sometime during the winter season. Feel free to call (574) 658-4312 before leaving your home to see if the library is open, or watch WNDU-TV for closing announcements. The library staff will announce any delayed opening, early closing or closing all day on WNDU-TV. The library is offering curbside service all this year, so patrons can call, request materials and a staff member will bring them out the south entrance to your car.
School’s Out—Week of Nov. 22
There will be no school Nov. 22-26, but the library will be open its regular hours on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Anyone needing to do eLearning is welcome to come in to the library and use the wireless. The library will be closed Thursday, Nov. 25 and Friday, Nov. 26 for Thanksgiving.
The library is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27. For those who are traveling, make sure you have plenty of reading material to last through the holiday. If you are entertaining friends and family at home, come and and check out some of the new movies, or Thanksgiving favorites, like, “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” or “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving.” Whatever you are doing this holiday week, take care and enjoy your family and friends.
Thanksgiving Treat Bag Available
Come to the library to get a Thanksgiving Treat bag. They are available through Wednesday, Nov. 24 . The last year has been a difficult one, with COVID-19 pretty much affecting everything. The library staff is thankful they have been able to keep the library open for the regular 48 hours a week, even though they have been short of help, like most other businesses. The staff is grateful for the support of the community. They are thankful for all the patrons. Those who are traveling over the holiday, or are looking for something to entertain younger Thanksgiving guests, the Thanksgiving Treat bag has a craft, a coloring book and crayons, a sticker sheet and a sunflower sucker.
The Wizard of Oz Virtual Program
The Milford Public Library is offering a free, virtual program for the month of November. In 1900, L. Frank Baum published what would become a literary classic with his children’s novel “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.” In 2018, Bright Star adapted the show into a two-person play and the result was amazing. It was the hit of 2018 so the library has brought it back for another year.
While the medium might be different, the characters and classic storyline remain the same. Follow comic duo Lenny and Mabel down the yellow brick road to the Land of Oz and meet all of your favorite characters along the way. Gain courage with the Cowardly Lion, take heart with the Tin Man, and find your wits with the Scarecrow in this fun interactive retelling of the L. Frank Baum classic.
