John Robert Finch, 65, Leesburg, passed away at 6:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2021, at Kosciusko Community Hospital in Warsaw.
He was born on Jan. 15, 1956, in Marion, to Lloyd L. and Margaret “Peggy” (Dodt) Finch.
He attended St. Paul Elementary in Marion, Wawasee Prep in Syracuse, and graduated in 1974 from Marion High School. He also attended the Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Indiana University in Kokomo. He was married on April 13, 1985, in Marion, to Sherryl S. Cordill, who survives.
He was formerly employed at the family business, Grant County Abstract Company in Marion, and could have been seen slipping out to play golf with his father. He also worked at Horizon Transport in Wakarusa for 22 years where he had the opportunity to see all lower 48 states and many Canadian Providences, many with his wife. He grew up in Marion, spent many years at Webster and Wawasee Lakes before moving to Irish Lake full time in 1998.
He was raised Catholic and was a member of the Marion Jaycees & Aero Club. He and his wife were members of the Barbee Pirate Euchre Club and known as the founders of the Barbee Lakes Ship of Fools Pirate Party for the past 23 years. He loved playing and watching football, Canadian fly in fishing with his Wally Walleye Buddies, enjoyed photography, and spending time with his friends at the lake.
He is survived by his wife: Sherryl Finch, Leesburg; sister: Linda Duncan, Marion; two brothers: Harry (Jane) Finch, Marion; and Jim (Maureen) Finch, Sacramento, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister: Mary Jane Keenan.
Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, 4356 N. SR 13, Warsaw. A Celebration of Life gathering will be from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 16, at Owen Family Funeral Home, SR 13 and CR 500N, North Webster. Private family burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery at a later date.
