WARSAW — The attorneys at Reed & Shuttz, LLP, hope to fill a need in Kosciusko County.
“We did a little bit of market research and found the area seems to be a little underserved for attorneys, but particularly there are some older attorneys in the area that are probably going to be retiring before too much longer, so we thought it might be a good time to get our name established so that way when those folks get to the point where they’re ready to retire maybe we can be there to serve Warsaw or the community of Kosciusko County,” said Reed & Shuttz partner Traci Shuttz.
The Kosciusko Chamber of Commerce had a ribbon-cutting for the firm on Friday, Oct. 15. It’s located at 221 N. Washington St., Warsaw.
Reed & Shuttz opened on Feb. 14. Shuttz and partner Blake Reed practice nearly all types of law, she said.
“We do criminal, we do civil, we do family law, we do wills, trusts, estates, business law, the only thing we don’t do is personal injury, so everything other than that we pretty much can cover,” said Shuttz.
Shuttz and Reed both are involved with separate firms as well. He’s a partner at Abel Reed Williams, LLC, in Terre Haute, and she at Bleecker, Brodey & Andrews in Indianapolis.
Being longtime family friends, though, made the two also want to start a firm together, she said.
“We both ended up going to law school and just we knew we wanted to do something together, so this was what we decided to do,” she said.
Coming to the area was also for personal reasons, she explained.
“Our families have been coming up here for several years, probably since (the) late ’90s,” she said. “So my folks live up here permanently now, so I moved up here to be close with them and we decided it was a good time to see what we could do.”
She graduated from Ohio Northern University for law and Reed from Valparaiso University.
Shuttz said they hope to expand in the future.
“We’d love it if we got to fill up all of our offices with attorneys and staff, so that’s our goal eventually,” she said.
Office hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday, but Shuttz said she can meet with clients on weekends if they set up appointments.
