WARSAW — A Warsaw man was arrested after battering a woman.
James Lewis Griffith, 44, 538 Clinic Court, Warsaw, is charged with domestic battery with moderate bodily injury and strangulation, both level 6 felonies; and domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor.
On Sept. 1, a Warsaw Police officer met with an individual who said a woman had been battered by Griffith. When the officer went to speak with the woman about what occurred, he noticed she had significant facial injuries.
According to court documents, the woman had a bruise on her left cheek, as well as bruising on the right side of her chin and around both eyes. The area around her left eye was also swollen.
The woman told the officer Griffith woke her up from a nap and began hitting, slapping and choking her. She also said Griffith put his hands around her neck.
Officers spoke with Griffith about the incident. Griffith said he blacked out, but knew he hit the woman.
Griffith has an initial hearing at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 11.
