Two Barn Fires In Benton Township Five Miles Apart

ELKHART COUNTY — Two barn fires about five miles apart on Friday night are being investigated by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office and Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Both fires were north of Syracuse in Benton Township, Friday, Oct. 1.
The first fire was reported at 9:39 p.m. at 72648 CR 43, Syracuse, just north of the Elkhart/Kosciusko County line near Solomon Creek. Benton Township and Turkey Creek Fire Territory responded.
At 11:17 p.m. the departments, along with sheriff deputies responded to a report of another barn fire at 13394 CR 48, Syracuse. This fire was northwest of the first barn fire, west of US 33.
No injuries were reported at either fire.
Detectives with the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office and the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office responded for preliminary investigation at both scenes.
Details provided for this release are preliminary and the investigation into both fires is ongoing. Additional information will not be available until Oct. 4.
These two fires come several weeks after two other barns burned in Elkhart County, also less than five miles from each other. Those fires were in Wakarusa/Harrison Township area.
