MILFORD—6:00 p.m. on Sept. 14, Van Buren Township had its board meeting to address and adopt the budget .
Becky Alles the Van Buren Township Trustee shared that through the budget the Township was able to help four individuals with their utilities.
“The one thing that most people are interested in here is Township Assistance in the month of August. We spent $702.32 for Nipsco bills for four people,” Alles said.
She shared that for the assistance she partnered with Compass of Syracuse for three of them.
“They have moneys for helping with this. They’re a regular partner for me,” Alles said.
She stated that she believes the budget is in good shape.
“We’re in good shape, the total budget for the year is $206,415,” Alles said.
In addition, the board also discussed that Alles will be attending a educational meeting for the township called Indiana Township Association Educational Conference next week.
“It’s to our benefit, because you just learn how not to make mistakes in your accounting process,” Alles said.
She shared that she will be educating herself further on the new regulations.
“It’s always learning more about new regulations, refresher courses on everything a township trustee do,” Alles said.
Lastly, the board discussed when to hold the next meeting and landed on Dec. 7 unless something comes up.
“Unless something comes we could go all the way to December and do our end of year stuff and that would include if we are going to transfer any funds,” Alles said.
