NORTH WEBSTER—With cooler fall temperatures on the way, there is a possibility of spending more time indoors. Stock up on books for those chilly fall evenings at the Friends of the North Webster Community Public Library book sale Thursday and Friday, Sept. 23-24. Sale hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday in the library’s event room.
A large selection of books in all genres for adults and kids will be available at bargain prices. DVDs and puzzles will be on sale as well. Proceeds go to support the work of the library.
Children are often called upon to read aloud in school. Help them gain confidence by signing them up for Paws-To-Read. Every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 4:15 to 5 p.m. kids can practice their oral reading skills by reading to a registered therapy dog. The dogs don’t care if a child stumbles as they read, they just like the attention. Private 15-minute reading sessions are available by appointment and can be scheduled by contacting the youth services desk.
While at the library, kids can have fun searching for the hidden paper apples and receive a treat after finding them all. They can also pick up a take-home craft to complete.
There’s still time to read a book and join in the book discussion for Voyager Book Club at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 27. In this book club, everyone reads a book of their choice within an assigned category and share what they have read with the group. For the Sept. 27 meeting, participants are asked to read a book written by an author they have never read before. It’s a good opportunity to discover a new favorite author.
Participate in the September reading contest for a chance to win a prize. Select an item from the Check It Out Station, then try to guess what each of the displayed items has in common. Enter the title, along with name and phone number, in the drawing and write a guess on the back of the drawing slip. An entry for the drawing is accepted with each item checked out. The drawing will be held the first of October and the winner will be notified by phone.
