Claypool Man Arrested For Injuring Pregnant Woman
Staff Report
CLAYPOOL — A Claypool man was recently arrested after allegedly injuring a pregnant woman.
Austin Samual Wood, 24, 3658 E. CR 800S, Claypool, is charged with domestic battery to a pregnant woman, a level 5 felony; domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor; criminal mischief, a class B misdemeanor; and domestic battery with a prior conviction enhancement, a level 6 felony.
On July 2, a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s deputy responded to a domestic battery report. Upon arrival at the scene, the deputy met with a woman who said Wood had battered her.
According to court documents, the woman went to a residence, where she discovered Wood had broken the hubcap on her vehicle and also dumped a trash can’s contents into it. Wood then exited the residence and began yelling at the woman.
As the woman got into a vehicle and attempted to lock the door, Wood was able to unlock it and enter. He allegedly began kicking her in the upper leg in an attempt to force her out of the vehicle. Wood then walked to the driver’s side of the vehicle as the woman was trying to get away and pushed her down. He entered the vehicle and left the scene.
The deputy noticed the woman had red marks and bruising on her leg. He also noticed the woman’s vehicle did have a broken hubcap and trash remnants inside of it. The woman told the deputy she was pregnant and that Wood was aware she was pregnant.
Wood was previously convicted of domestic battery in January 2020.
For this case, he was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Sept. 7, with a $10,250 surety and cash bond.
