NorthWood JV Boys 5, Tippecanoe Valley 3
For the second consecutive game, the Tippecanoe Valley boys soccer team started fast but couldn’t maintain their lead and lost a tough contest to NorthWood JV by the score of 5-3. Viking Jon Ruiz scored inside a minute following the first possession of the game and Valley broke out on top 1-0. Caleb Petgen, Valley’s leading scorer last season, scored his initial goal of the season off a pass from Kynan Cords to knot the game at 2-2. For the next 20 minutes the two teams traded goals and both missed scoring opportunities. Ruiz netted his 3rd goal of the young season to tie it at 3-3 with about 12 minutes to play. However, NorthWood quickly regained the advantage scoring on a ball Valley was unable to clear out of the box, which made it 4-3 for the visitors. The Panthers added an insurance goal with 90 seconds left to ice the game.
Panther goals were potted by Mark Santos (2), Landon Weldy, Jack Walters and Andrew Myers.
Although the Vikings lost, they played very hard for 80 minutes and left everything out on the field, noted Viking coach Andy Luce. Next up for Valley is the conference opener at Wabash at 5:30 p.m. next Tuesday.
