David Carl Ellis
David Carl Ellis, 84, Warsaw, passed away at 5:49 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, 2021, at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.
He was born on May 22, 1937, in Warsaw, to Hazel (York) Ellis and Edgar Ellis. On May 2, 1956, he married the love of his life, Ruth Elaine Grubbs. They raised two sons and shared the joy of becoming grandparents over their 65 years of marriage together before he passed away.
David was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County, where he was a 1955 graduate of Warsaw High School. He was the 1954-1955 star halfback for his football team and played on the varsity team for four years. Even as an adult he still enjoyed watching football.
While he was in high school, he had a job working for Jet White in downtown Warsaw until one day he was able to buy the small Jet White store. David was a familiar face to lots of Warsaw residents as he worked there as the butcher for many years. He then started E & M Meat Market where he owned and managed the store from 1974-1981. After the E & M store closed, David continued to work for several meat markets such as Owens, Marsh and Pletchers before he retired. He was also very handy at restoring furniture and was the owner of Dave’s Restorations. David always kept busy providing for his family and enjoyed being around people.
He always had a fascination with airplanes and dreamed that one day he could learn to fly. David earned his pilots license and loved to fly recreationally. He experienced God’s beauty looking down from the sky on many a glorious day and never tired of the experience of flight that brought a smile to his face. He was a longtime member of the Church of God in Warsaw where he enjoyed the fellowship of his church family and being able to share his love of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He will forever be loved and remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friends to many.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife: Ruth Ellis, Warsaw; two sons: Brad and Thomas Ellis, Warsaw; eight grandchildren: Jeff, Michael, Derek, Joshua and Tiffany Ellis; Sydney and Jeremy Chang; and Corrie Sewell; ten great-grandchildren; and his two sisters: Doris Zimmerman, Milford; and Virginia Ashby, Silver Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Harold, John and Conover Ellis, and his sister, Julia Taylor.
David’s life will be celebrated at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana and officiated by Reverend Jerry Yoder. Friends and family may visit prior to the service from 2-4 p.m. at the funeral home.
