Silent Majority
Dear Editor,
According to Wikipedia, “The silent majority is an unspecified large group of people in a country or group who do not express their opinions publicly.” The term was employed in the 19th Century, again in 1919, and once again in the late 1960’s.
The silent majority is mainly silent because these people are busy living their lives the best they can, dealing with hardships, obeying rules and laws, respecting and helping their neighbors, and just plain trying to be good people.
I believe now is the time for the silent majority to make noise – loud noise – not in argumentative stances, not in accusatory or demeaning stances, and certainly not in violent confrontations. Instead, it is time to loudly and persistently and consistently shout out the truth – factual, cold, hard truth.
“A person may cause evil to others not only by his actions but by his inactions, and in either case, he is justly accountable to them for the injury.” – John Mills
“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” – Edmund Burke
Look for another reality check coming soon.
