NorthWood 15th At State Preview
NorthWood reconnected with a host of its state mates Saturday at the IHSAA Fall Preview at Prairie View Golf Club.
The showcase, featuring some of the who’s who in girls golf from around the state, had the Panthers tie for 15th overall in the team standings at 388, deadlocked with Crown Point. Westfield played the state finals course like champions, almost literally, by shooting a paltry plus-13, or 301 for the day. Carmel was second at 308 and Center Grove was third in a tie with Homestead at 316, the Spartans a potential regional matchup with NorthWood this fall.
Penn, which NorthWood beat by four strokes Thursday at the NorthWood Invite, finished at 381 and tied tenth with Franklin Community.
Cybil Stillson led NorthWood’s cause with a 79, going birdieless for the day but just two over on the front side for a 38. Stillson had two bogeys and a double on the back side for a 41. At seven over, Stillson finished in a three-way tie for 20th overall.
Breanna Goss saw her top 10 streak end at four with a 90 at Prairie View, placing 45th overall. Riley Kitson shot a 106, Kira Schrock a 113 and Bella Sechrist a 126 to close out the Panther scorecard.
Westfield’s Sam Brown hung a two-under 70 on the board to lead the way in the individual ledger while Western’s Elizabeth Mercer and Floyd Central’s Paige Giovenco both were one over at 73 for runner-up honors. Penn’s Delaney Wade shot a 77 for finish tied for 13th overall.
