SYRACUSE — Sign-up is booming for the antique show with Dave Taylor of Blue Pearl Antiques, which will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, at the Syracuse Public Library. Get your name in now before spaces fill up. Taylor specializes in art and jewelry appraisals, but mystery items are welcome as well. Register upstairs at the library or by calling (574) 457-3022.
Additionally, adults and teens, 13 and older, can register to play one of the 17 games available on the Oculus Quest 2 that the library is hosting during August. Stop by the adult circulation desk or call (574) 457-3022 with your preferred time slots, and Becky Brower or Shelly Krueger will schedule your virtual reality experience. Tuesdays from Aug. 10-24 feature the most availability. All participants must sign a waiver to use the VR set. Minors under the age of 18 will also need a signature from a parent/guardian.
Elizabeth Wamsley will be returning to the Syracuse Public Library from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, for a new clay class. This one will feature surface designing, and participants will be making trays. Sign up for this class upstairs at the library; space is limited to 12 people.
After a bustling summer, the children’s department will have a low-key August as staff members prepare for autumn programming. In September, story time will resume along with homeschool classes.
Join the library for weekly programs during August. Every Monday there is mahjong at 10 a.m. All skill levels are welcome to attend. “Dungeons and Dragons” also occurs from 2-5:30 p.m. every Monday. Both programs occur in the downstairs meeting room. Then for some exercise, join the trail walk at 9 a.m. each Thursday. Meet at the library’s electronic sign to embark on a 30- to 40-minute walk to places around the library.
