ROCHESTER – A toddler in Rochester drowned in a residential pond Monday afternoon, July 26.

The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office said the 18-month old, who was not identified, was found in a pond around 4:25 p.m. Monday on Lakeview Bend.

A neighbor went into the pond to rescue the child. Efforts to revive the child were underway when emergency responders arrived. The child was then taken to Woodlawn Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to a  statement released by the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office.

A preliminary investigation indicates it was an accidental drowning, the sheriff’s office statement said.

No other details were released.

Other departments responding to the call included the Indiana Department of Child Services, Fulton County Coroner, Rochester Fire Department and Lutheran EMS.
