Evelyn L. Burns
Evelyn L. Burns, 91, Rochester, went home to be with her Lord and Savior at 2:09 a.m. Monday, July 19, 2021, at her residence.
She was born Nov. 27, 1929, in Pulaski County, the daughter of William and Mabel E. (Irvin) Edington. On Sept. 18, 1949, in Rochester, she married Howard A. Burns. He preceded her in death on July 16, 2006.
Evelyn had been a homemaker. She was a member of Solid Rock Church where she was baptized on Aug. 24, 2004. She had also been a member of the Reiter School Club, and had been a poll worker for many years on election days. Pinnacle to her life was the time she spent with her family. She often hosted family gatherings of forty or more people. In the kitchen, she was known for her expertise in frying eggs as well as being known for her ham, ham gravy, and sweet potatoes. She enjoyed playing cards with family members, eating popcorn and drinking coffee with her lady friends and family. She will also be remembered for her contagious laugh, to know her was to love her.
Survivors include her children: Dianna (Earl) Roe, Rochester; Darlene Houser (Rod Runyon), De Motte; Patty (Joe) Brady, Rochester; her grandchildren; great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; one great grandchild and great- great grandchild soon to arrive this fall; sisters: Louise Grube, North Manchester; Ruby Armstrong, Lafayette; brother, Ralph “Dink” Edington, Rochester; several nieces and nephews, and dear friend, Marie Nicklaus, Rochester. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Howard “Joe” Burns, sister, Margaret Carpenter, brothers, Lester Edington, George Edington, and Carl Edington, and son-in-law, Ben Houser.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, July 23, at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester. Friends may visit from 4- 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Kewanna I.O.O. F. Cemetery, Kewanna
