Janis Ruth Mann
Janis Ruth Mann, 66, Columbia City, passed away Saturday, July 17, 2021, at Miller’s Merry Manor.
Born at Whitley County Memorial Hospital in Columbia City on Aug. 16, 1954, she was the daughter of the late Paul Wolfe and Betty (Jones) Wolfe.
Janis was a member of the Columbia City Joint High School Class of 1972. Janis worked full time for 28 years at Whitley County Memorial Hospital in admitting, dispatch and the ER; she volunteered with the EMS until she earned her EMT certification in 1995. She added working as an EMT to her responsibilities until the EMS services relocated. After 11 years working as a dispatcher for CCPD, she retired in 2019; often referred to by colleagues as one of the best dispatchers around. She also worked at Kroger for a retirement gig.
She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior on July 9, 2021, and was baptized on July 11, 2021. She bowled for over 40 years and also loved playing softball in the ‘70s. As a kid Janis loved riding her ponies Trixie and Flicka.
Survivors include a daughter Carmen (Christopher Lynch) Mann-Lynch; son David Mann; one grandson Tanner Lynch; sister Susan (Richard) Schafer; brother Dennis (Rita) Wolfe; nieces Angela (Greg) Schade, Amber Wolfe and Alicia (Stephen Dennis) Wolfe; nephews Michael (Inger) Schafer, Wesley (Sarah) Wolfe and Tyler (Jodie) Wolfe; great nieces: Sara, Amelia and Anna Schade, Kathleen and Carlee Schafer, Ellie and Sylvie Dennis, Annie (Wesley’s daughter) Wolfe; and great nephews Ben (Wesley’s son) Wolfe and Greyson (Tyler’s son) Wolfe. She also leaves behind her beloved bird of 22 years, Miller, and cats, Smokey and Sophie.
Visitation will be 2 -7 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Tim Grable officiating. Burial will take place at South Park Cemetery.
