AKRON, OHIO – Pandemic restrictions led to the cancellation of the Soap Box Derby racing season last year for the first time since World War II. With most of those restrictions now lifted, racing is “Back on Track” as more than 260 boys and girls ages 7 through 20 will travel to Akron, Ohio to represent their home communities in the 83rd FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby on Saturday, July 24.
Contestants from throughout the United States will compete in their gravity-powered cars for share of $36,000 in college scholarships.
Race activities kick off at Derby Downs here on Tuesday July 20 for pre-race activities leading up to the world championships on Saturday.
