Verna E. Hathaway — UPDATED
Verna E. Hathaway, 85, Pierceton, peacefully passed away at home, Sunday, May 9, 2021, surrounded by her family. Verna was born April 29, 1936, in Pierceton to Russell and Ruby (Babcock) Cole. She married K. Fredrick Hathaway on June 13, 1955; he survives.
Verna was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who lived her life to the fullest. She loved golf, gambling and playing cards with family and friends. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was the pillar of strength and love for her entire family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Verna is survived by her husband of 65 years, Fred; their five children: William “Bill” (Sonya) Hathaway of Warsaw; Debra (Brian Wilson) Hathaway of Warsaw; Vickie (Dan) Gackstetter of Arizona; Ann (Walter Williams) Howard of Larwill; Fredrick (Angi) Hathaway of North Manchester; seventeen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Also surviving are a sister, Vera Drudge of Pierceton, and a brother Robert “Bob” Riemersma of North Manchester.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two grandsons, two great grandsons, three bothers and three sisters.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Friday, July 2 at the Menzie-Reece American Legion Post 258, Pierceton, from 5 to 7 p.m.
