WARSAW — Cornelius Watkins created a barbecue business to help his children.
“I wanted to have something for my children to have because this is what they deserve,” he said. “I came from nothing. I didn’t have things and I don’t want them to have to go through the same hardships and hard times that I went through, so I built this for them.”
So Watkins started Big C’s BBQ & Catering. The Kosciusko Chamber of Commerce had a ribbon-cutting for the barbecue food truck on Thursday, June 10, before the chamber’s Business After Hours at Woodland Plaza in Warsaw.
The first day for the business was July 4, 2020. Watkins said the truck, manned by him and his wife Kayla Watkins, is usually stationed in either Milford or Syracuse.
It’s generally outside the Milford Dollar General from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. or until sold out on Thursdays and Fridays and the Syracuse RE/MAX on Saturdays at those same times.
The truck’s schedule may also be found on the business’ Facebook page. People may also book it for events via Facebook or by calling 574-326-6383.
The menu includes chicken wings, pulled pork tacos, pulled pork sandwiches and macaroni and cheese topped with pulled pork.
“I hope it brings some good barbecue to the area and different flavor,” said Cornelius Watkins.
He encourages people to take the initiative to start a business.
“If anyone’s wanting to start a business, (they should) just do it,” he said. “The only thing stopping it is you. And do it for a good reason.”
