Leonard J. Burns
Leonard J. Burns, 74, passed away at 2:15 a.m. June 6, 2021, at Paddock Springs in Warsaw.
Leonard was born the son of Leonard O. and Josephine Bell Miller Burns on June 9, 1946, in Wabash. On Nov. 17, 1968, he married Velma M. Cudney in Plymouth; she preceded him in death on July 25, 2004.
He retired after working as a steelworker for Dalton Foundry for 33 years and was also the top iron carrier for the past 10 years. Leonard was a member of the local steelworker’s union. He was also a member of the North Webster Eagles and American Legion, as well as the Warsaw VFW. Leonard proudly served his country as part of the United States Army from 1965-1968, during the Korean war, working as a diesel mechanic and driver. During his free time, Leonard enjoyed going to the race track, wrestling, going to ball games, the Chicago Cubs and travelling.
Those left to cherish memories of Leonard are his daughters: Becky (Mark) Snyder, of Warsaw; Joyce (Steven) Detwiler, of Goshen; sons: Lonnie (Vicky) Burns, of Warsaw; Leonard E. Burns, of Warsaw; Chad Burns, of Warsaw; 22 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Also missing him are sisters: Sandra (Eddie) Kuhn, of North Webster; and Bonnie Burns, of Syracuse.
Leonard is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Velma; son, Mark Burns; sister, Margaret Goddard; granddaughter, Lydia; and daughter-in-law, Tina.
Friends and family members are welcome to join in a Celebration of Life for Leonard from noon-3 p.m. Saturday, July 10, at Pike Lake Fireman’s Building in Warsaw.
