Freddie Taylor Powell
Freddie Taylor “Fred” Powell, 77, Milford, passed away at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne. He was born Dec. 31, 1943, in Terre Haute, to Thomas Taylor and Rebecca Mae (Powers) Powell.
He graduated in 1964 from Bourbon High School and was married on April 12, 1963, in Plymouth, to Marilyn Delores Scott who preceded him on Oct. 29, 2016. He formerly worked at the Farmers Exchange, Times Union in Warsaw, and The Paper in Milford, and worked for the Milford and Kosciusko County EMS. He was also a self-employed transportation driver. He grew up Terre Haute and lived most of his life in the Marshall and Kosciusko County area.
He was a former member of the Milford Kiwanis and formerly attended the Gospel Tabernacle in Warsaw.
He is survived by his daughter, Latisha (Ian) Karns of Lafayette; two sons: Terry Powell of Milford; and Richard (Alison) Powell of Syracuse; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; three sisters: Dorothy (Vernon) Frayer of Fort Wayne; Clara (Joe) Rosebaum of Plymouth; and Rebecca Quimby of Argos; stepbrother, Max (Evie) Fribley of Warsaw.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister, Nellie Turpin, and two brothers, Tom and Bill Powell.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, June 12, at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the funeral home with Pastor Jack Barthel officiating. Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, 4356 N. SR 15 Warsaw.
