Steven Duane Weldy
Steven Duane Weldy, 70, Nappanee, passed away at 2:40 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at his residence.
He was born March 8, 1951, in Piqua, Ohio, to Jack and Ruth (Buckingham) Weldy. On Oct. 14, 1968, he married Wilma Jean McGlothin.
He is survived by his wife, Wilma; three daughters, Jamiee (Roger) Renz, Portland, Amber (Russell III) Meyer, Elkhart, and Stephanie Balsley, Mishawaka; five grandchildren, Jessica (Ryan) Smith, Jeffery Zellmer, Grace Renz, Breanne Balsley and Aaron Renz; three great-grandchildren, Skylar Smith, ChiAnn Zellmer and Averi Gouge; seven younger siblings, Connie (Phil) Best, Oklahoma, and Ruth Ann (Mike) Oliver, Donna Zimmerman, Jack (Ruth) Weldy, Bret (April) Weldy, Fern (Mike) Detrick and Paul (Dawn) Palser, all of Ohio.
Shortly after Steven graduated from Greenville High School in Ohio, he moved to Indiana, where he worked at Coppes Kitchens for 17 years. After a motorcycle accident left him a quadriplegic, he went back to school and earned an engineering degree from Ivy Tech in 1996. He recently retired from his engineering job in Goshen.
Steve enjoyed spending time with his family and attending events with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling. In the last several months, he became very close to his granddaughter’s husband, Ryan Smith.
There will be a celebration of life at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, from 2-5 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2021.
Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
