John C. Duffy, 91, Columbia City, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday morning, June 4, 2021 at Majestic Care West. Born Dec. 20, 1929, in Lafayette, he was the son of Peter and Dorothy (McGann) Duffy.
He graduated from Jefferson High School with the Class of 1949. He served in the U.S. Army in the infantry and military police during the Korean War from 1951-1953. He graduated from Purdue University in West Lafayette in 1956.
On Aug. 20, 1955, he married Lois J. Clemens in Milwaukee, Wis. John taught and coached for five years in the Fort Wayne Community Schools. He retired after 31 years as an account executive for the Morton Salt Co. After 36 years, John and Lois moved in 1993 from Fort Wayne to Columbia City. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the American Legion in Columbia City and the Korean Veterans Association in Fort Wayne and a Charter Member of the YMCA in Columbia City.
John is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Lois Duffy; daughters Susan (Paul) Grim, Sharon (Dale) Dunten and Chrisanne (Gregory) Shields; brother James Duffy; grandchildren Joseph (Frederique) Grim, David (Michelle) Grim, Laura Cartwright, Julie (Leo) Olden, Lindsay (David) Bischoff, Michael (Allison) Dunten, Erica Johnston, Alexander Duffy/Sears and Marissa (Jack) Campell; and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Daisy Duffy, Violet Hagen, Dorothy Fischer, Ethel Duffy, Virginia Darrington and Edith Siconolfi; and brothers Harold Duffy and Robert Duffy.
A memorial service will be noon Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr., Columbia City, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Pastor Phil Ritner will be officiating, and military honors are being rendered by the Whitley County Korean War Veterans Honor Guard. He will be placed to rest at South Park Cemetery at a later date.
