Robert D. ‘Bob’ Chokey
Robert D. “Bob” Chokey, 93, Nappanee, died at 12:20 p.m., Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at his residence. He was born July 9, 1927, in Wakarusa to Ernest J. and Florence B. (Robison) Chokey.
He lived his lifetime in the Wakarusa/Nappanee area. He was a 1945 graduate of Wakarusa High School. He was an Army veteran of WW II. On Oct. 23, 1948, he married Doris Lee in Ligonier. Bob retired in 1992 from the telephone company, where he had worked for 37 years. Bob was a member of Nappanee United Methodist Church, Nappanee American Legion, South Bend Scottish Rite, and Shriners in Fort Wayne. He was also a member of the former Nappanee Masonic Lodge. Bob served in Nappanee as an EMT and was a former member of the Nappanee Smokey Stover Fire Department. He was also an avid Cub and Indiana Hoosier fan.
Surviving is his wife, Doris; daughter, Robin Hawks, Nappanee; sons: Douglas (Brenda) Chokey, Bloomington; Darin (Maria) Chokey, Chandler, Ariz.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sisters: Bonnie (Dwayne) Rufenacht, La Junta, Colo.; and Janice (Ed) Evers, Wakarusa. He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Cripe and brother, Eugene Chokey.
Family and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday, June 4, at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee. There will be a Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m. Private burial will be in Sparta Cemetery in Kimmel, Saturday morning, June 5. Military graveside services will be conducted by Nappanee American Legion. Memorial Services will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, June 5, at Nappanee United Methodist Church. Rev. Kevin Reed will officiate.
