SYRACUSE — Art enthusiasts of all ages can enjoy a wide variety of activities at Family Art-Fest, a Last Friday event hosted by Syracuse-Wawasee Chamber of Commerce from 5-7 p.m., Friday, May 28, in Veteran’s Memorial Park, 301 N. Huntington St.
“It will be a fun family evening,” said Chamber Executive Director Renea Salyer, who noted that, along with several art projects led by local artist Tammy Kratzer, fishing tutorials will also be led by David Greathouse of Track N Channel Bait and Tackle. Volunteers from the chamber and Syracuse Parks Department will also be on hand.
Live music from Joe Arnold (of Top Secret Band) and Sue Steininger will be provided, while food and refreshments will be available from Dixie BBQ, along with free popcorn from RE/MAX Partners.
Kratzer and volunteers will lead the art activities, which will include the following: Pop bottle flower painting, which uses two-liter pop bottles or water bottles dipped in different colors of paint to create flower petals; swat the fly painting, which employs fly swatters dipped in paint, with which kids are encouraged to “swat” at flies already drawn or painted on to the paper. Perfect for the outdoors, these fun and messy projects are especially effective for youngsters.
Other painting projects include T-shirt art, where attendees can bring a shirt to paint, and bookmark making, for anyone interested in creating a more personalized bookmark for summer reading; pet rock painting, which will be sponsored by New Hope Pet Rescue.
